The Coptic Orthodox Diocese of the Southern United States is in need of your help. For this reason this message is being sent to all the priests in North America in hopes that the Coptic Churches may unite together to help out our Coptic School, St. Clement Coptic Orthodox Academy in Nashville, TN.

Kohl's department store is hosting a contest on Face book. They are giving away $500,000 to each of the 20 schools that receive the most votes in their contest. We need everybody we know to go online and vote for St. Clement Coptic Orthodox Academy in Nashville, TN. Each person is allowed 20 votes (up to 5 for a single school) and we need 5 of those 20 votes to go to St, Clement Coptic Orthodox Academy, Nashville, TN. The voting will end on September 3, 2010.

St. Clement Coptic Orthodox Academy in Nashville, TN is borderline in receiving this fund. The Southern Diocese does not encourage Face book accounts but for the sake of helping the school, we are asking people to create an account in order to vote and then to delete this account. Since this is the last Sunday before the deadline, we are also asking the churches to please have computers setup after Sunday services for people to go online and vote.

Please forward this message to as many people as you can to help us spread the word.

We would also like to help another Coptic School in VA called Good Shepherd Christian Academy. Since every one will have up to 20 votes, so 5 votes can be towards St. Clement while another 5 votes can be towards Good Shepherd Christian Academy.

Here are the steps for voting:
1. Go to
http://apps.facebook.com/KohlsCares/
2. Click on "Vote Now"

a. If prompted to "LIKE" the organization click on the option to "LIKE"
b. If prompted to "ALLOW" access to your information click the option to "ALLOW"

3. Click on SEARCH SCHOOLS and type in St. Clement Coptic Orthodox Academy

a. Make sure to choose the St. Clement Coptic Orthodox Academy, Nashville TN

4. Once chosen, then click on "Cast A Vote"
5. When done, remember to go back and cast your 4 remaining votes as well

Repeat these same steps for Good Shepherd Christian Academy in VA.

Please keep St. Clement Academy in your prayers.

The History Of The Coptic Language

  • Coptic

Definition

The Coptic Language is the name used to refer to the last stage of the written Egyptian language. Coptic should more correctly be used to refer to the script rather than the language itself. Even though this script was introduced as far back as the 2nd century BC., it is usually applied to the writing of the Egyptian language from the first century AD. to the present day.

Introduction

Music is the language used by the Seraphim in heaven and humans on earth to Praise God. It is the language of the soul as prayer is the language of the heart. St Augustine says "There is no emotion of the human spirit which music is incapable of expressing".

Coptic History

  • Coptic

The word Copt is derived from the Greek word Aigyptos, which was, in turn, derived from "Hikaptah", one of the names for Memphis, the first capital of Ancient Egypt. The modern use of the term "Coptic" describes Egyptian Christians, as well as the last stage of the ancient Egyptian language script. Also, it describes the distinctive art and architecture that developed as an early expression of the new faith.
